What a Mentor does is not really clear to me – it sounds like they are chosen for a year's run by SAP as being very knowledgeable and can only remain a Mentor as long as they promote the sale of and/or contribute directly to product development or collaboration for SAP packages. They have “Mentors” who are experts in their associated areas with a “lemon” next to their names. Maybe it is true of mentioning a Vendor also? Mention of any product other than SAP is a sure fire way to get items deleted and your access revoked – I have been told this but have not seen it. There is a lot of information missing from the profiles in SAP (called Business Card). SAP employees have an SAP icon next to their names, but other than that there is no way to distinguish if a person is a Customer or a Partner or a Vendor or a Consulting Firm. SAP and its Community have a love/hate relationship with points similar to many other Communities. Things can get pretty rough if you do not toe some pretty ambiguous “rules” - for example, if someone has posted a question, you know of an answer from the past in the Forum, and you post that link, it is considered some kind of plagiarism with possible removal of points and/or ID (I am not knocking SAP, I just don't understand why saving yourself and others 15 minutes of time is seen as being a “bad tactic”, and NO, I am not saying that to get into a discussion about link posting here). Of course, people get around it with coded references, but you get the general idea. You cannot even use the word “Email” in a posting: the system blocks the post from being created. No ability to contact someone with a “send a message” function, and the vast majority of the members hide their Email addresses. I tend to think of the SAP Community as being a bit “closed”, since there is very little interaction of the kind I have experienced here in SW. SAP Community Interaction is different than SW.

A general overview of SAP and then more specific to the SAP B1 Community. Each one has its own purpose, but the overall theme is to promote the sales, development, and support of SAP products. SAP provides several avenues and programs where Customers, Vendors, Partners, and SAP personnel can interact.
